Fabrizio Romano confirms meeting between Jude Bellingham and Real Madrid

Borussia Dortmund will be licking their wounds after exiting the Champions League following a narrow defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday night. However their star player has been making use of the trip to cross a number of things of his list.

It emerged earlier on Tuesday that Bellingham and Real Madrid had met, as Los Blancos seek to up the ante in the pursuit of the English midfielder.

However Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that while the meeting did happen, it was not decisive in any direction.

“It’s absolutely normal to meet when directors are traveling for Champions League. Bellingham’s father is holding meetings every week, same for Borussia director Sebastian Kehl. The crucial point is Bellingham’s decision, and this hasn’t been made yet.”

Romano made those comments on his daily Substack column, suggesting that there is still plenty of race to run for his signature.

In recent weeks, there have been reports of interest in Bellinghsm cooling off, and Real Madrid perhaps waiting to see whether Luka Modric wants to continue at the club. Yet the Croatian’s decision is unlikely to come before the end of April or May, thus if they do want to pursue Bellingham this summer, waiting would perhaps put them behind their competitors.
