Real Madrid preparing to offer contract to departing Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino

One of the key areas in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad that Florentino Perez is looking to address this summer is in attack. Karim Benzema is Real Madrid’s only natural striker at present, and given his injury record, it is a position that will require reinforcements.

Real Madrid have been looking into signing a backup to Benzema, who is expected to stay at Real Madrid next season despite intense speculation regarding a move to Saudi Arabia. Espanyol’s Joselu has emerged as an option, as has Roberto Firmino, who is leaving Liverpool at the end of this month when his contract expires.

Defensa Central have now reported that Real Madrid are preparing to offer Firmino a three-year contract, which would see him net €5m in wages per season.

Signing Firmino would be a very shrewd move for Real Madrid. The Brazilian, although he has not featured much over the last couple of seasons, has proven himself to be an excellent player during his time at Liverpool. As a backup, they can’t go wrong.

Firmino may not be the only striker leaving the Premier League in order to join Real Madrid. Harry Kane is reportedly a priority signing for Los Blancos, who are beginning to prepare for life without Benzema.
