Bayern Munich’s massive defender spend might save Barcelona from forced Araujo sale

Ronald Araujo is a really good player, came through the Barcelona youth academy and has been fantastic at times for them.

But rumours about his departure just won’t go away, and while Barcelona remain in a difficult financial situation, that will only continue.

The latest wave of rumours comes from Mundo Deportivo, who claim that Bayern Munich still have hopes of signing the centre back.

They admit it’s an ambitious plan, but while Barca are still mired in debt, anything is possible. They apparently want €100m for Uruguayan, but one would imagine an offer of much less than that would have to be seriously considered given the financial pressure.

Bayern have spent big on central defenders in recent years, with Matthijs de Ligt joining for €67m and Jim Min-jae is for €42m, with Eric Dier arriving in January as well. Unless one of those players move on, it’s hard to see them adding Araujo too – so for now, Barcelona fans can relax.
