Alan is a freelance journalist currently living in Seville but born and raised in Cork, Ireland. Having studied politics and economics at university he now covers sport, society and culture for These Football Times, La Liga Lowdown, World Football Index and others. Alan keeps a close eye on football throughout Andalusia but especially Sevilla and Real Betis, the great city rivals on his doorstep. Alan first fell for Spanish football watching Ronaldinho dominate La Liga in the mid-2000s, and his interest was consolidated by the rise of Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Barcelona team at the tail end of that decade. Alan is especially captivated by the complexity of Spanish football’s tactical systems on the pitch and its political and cultural connections off it. Follow Alan on Twitter: @azulfeehely.
