Xavi Hernandez willing to remain as Barcelona manager – provided that two key promises are made

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Xavi Hernandez in the last two months, ever since he announced his intention to step down as Barcelona head coach at the end of the season. The Catalan giants are unbeaten since the decision was made public, which has led to increased calls for him to stay on.

Joan Laporta, Rafa Yuste and Deco have all publicly stated that they want Xavi to stay, which has caused Barcelona’s managerial search to stagnate in recent weeks. So far, the 44-year-old coach has remained on track to leave, but it appears that he could be convinced to stay on for another season.

As per MD, Xavi has told Barcelona that he is open to staying on – on two conditions. He wants two top-level signings this summer, a pivot (such as Martin Zubimendi or Joshua Kimmich) and a creative number eight (similar to Bernardo Silva).

At this stage, Barcelona do not have the means to facilitate this, so they would need to make significant sales in order to grant Xavi’s demands. It does give them extra motivation to improve the club’s finances, at least.

  1. The pivot I can agree with, but not another attacking midfielder unless somebody is sold.

One of Gavi, Pedri or De Jong would have to sit otherwise. Unless De Jong is slated for a move (which he doesn’t want to make) and/or the club have decided that Pedri can’t be counted on or Gavi isn’t going to come back as the same player, it seems like the money would be better spent on a left winger (if the club can even afford that and still bring in the pivot they want). BSilva isn’t coming, btw. Just my two cents.

      1. I’d like to see it, but it’s going to cost around 100 million. Athletic negotiated the 50 million release clause for Nico to resign him so I doubt they’d take less, and Fulham rejected a 45 million offer for Pahlina from (I think) West Ham just this year. Both are under contract for the next few years so neither club have to take less if they don’t want to. The offseason will be ridiculous when it comes to speculation and rumors , but players have to go first, and so far none of the ones that would fetch a meaningful fee are giving any inclination that they want to leave Barca. Keep in mind that the club are still trying to work a deal with City for Cancelo and, although the price won’t be astronomical, it’s still going to make a dent and someone’s probably going to have to go just to make that happen.

I’d honestly be surprised if the club ended up adding more than a starting caliber pivot this time around. If they end up with a left winger than can make a difference it would just be a nice, unexpected bonus. Just trying to be realistic.

    1. I cant agree more with u. I dont think xavi needs or wants a number 8. Just grant xavi with zubi and im convinced he will stay. Sell FDJ to accomondate the purchase of zubi. That is all what barca need.

      1. I agree with use 100% about not needing a number 8 i mean we already have gundogan, gavi, pedri, lopez,de jong and pablo torre out on loan but i definitely wouldn’t sell frenkie de Jong just to be able to bring in a pivot i would much rather prefer to ditch bringing in a left winger than resort to that option tbh.

        1. Yeah, I forgot about Gundogan. Plenty of options already. Now, if BSilva is available and the club can afford it that’s a different matter, but anyone else? I don’t see it as being enough of a priority relative to the other needs.

  2. 2 clasico victories out of 9
    660 millions wasted in assets
    2 eliminations in EL
    1,6 billion debt
    Last CL win 2015
Coach carouselle, 4 last coaches resulted in only 3 trophies
2 trophies in last 2,5 seasons
    Another 0 season loading

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 🫵🤣

  3. Xavi there are other conditions: if xavi ll be given a handkie when ever he loses & gets emotional in a final there have to be love shown to him than pressure, when he faces a strong side as real, board directors should not pressure but come around him,hug him while he cries like a baby cos lossin is certain. When barca can’t afford to sign pay in peanut bit like upfront or sell more tv right or more camp nou grasses. Loser!
